Levy Vote coming to Naches Valley on February 9, 2010

Two questions will be asked on February 9, 2010.  Naches Valley School District will be asking the voters to decide on a:

1. replacement School Operation (M&O) levy and a

2. combinationTechnology and Capital Projects Levy.

1.   School Operation (M&O) Levy

Our previous levy will “expire” at the end of this year, so we are asking voters to consider a replacement School Operation levy for future years.
This levy:
·    Is a replacement levy
·    Is limited to two (2) years
·    Will raise $2,328,205 in 2011 and $2,409,692 in the 2012 to keep our programs and people in place as best possible through these tough budget times and dealing with reductions in State funding.
·    Will cost taxpayers approximately $3.04/thousand or $38.00 per month for a $150,000 house.

  2.   Technology and Capital Projects Levy

In addition, the school board will ask voters to consider a two year combination Technology and Capital Projects levy.
This new levy will:
·    Improve access to technology for our students
·    Pay the “local match” to a recently awarded $175,520 State Energy Efficiency Grant to upgrade our heating and air conditioning systems
·    Pay for an important group of building repairs and improvements
·    Raise $950,000 in each year 2011 and 2012.
·    Cost taxpayers approximately $1.26/thousand or $15.75 a month for a $150,000 house.
·    Most importantly, move our Facility Plan forward.

We need a new building for our K-4 elementary students, and to do some improvements in our middle and high school buildings.  The School Board, however, is not considering a school bond this year due to the national and state financial situation. In two years, the School Board plans to offer a school bond to allow us to build a new elementary school plus pay for additional improvements and repairs in the middle and high school.   This Technology and Capital projects levy will help by getting a start on the other building improvements, and supporting technology for our students, while we wait for the economy to improve.
